Romanov Report 3 – June 2, 2005

Knowledge is Power. Lack of Knowledge does not change the law.

Boating and Your Driver’s Abstract

Enjoy your summer boating, but did you know that drinking while operating a boat, has the same consequences, as drinking and driving your car? If charged, the conviction WILL show up on your driver’s abstract. That means that if your insurance company checks your driver’s abstract, your car insurance rates will skyrocket, anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000!

Missed Payments

Effective June I – The Ontario government has ruled that missed monthly payments for non-sufficient funds can NOT allow an insurance company to cancel you, if you make the payment with in 30 days of being notified. Previously, thousands of drivers were put in to non-standard, high rated markets, for simply missing a payment, or making a late payment. The third time this happens, though, your insurance company has the right to cancel your policy, regardless of being paid. A good strategy is to get your bank to give you overdraft protection. Think of it as "insurance" for your insurance.
