5,300 Fail to Buckle Up

On Tuesday, April 26, 2005, the Toronto Police Service concluded the spring session of the Provincial Seat Belt Campaign. This nine day public awareness and enforcement campaign targeted all occupants in vehicles who were not properly restrained, especially those with young passengers.
Of the tickets issued:
- 4,344 tickets were issued to driver’s failing to wear their complete seat belt assembly.
- 593 tickets were issued to passengers who failed to wear their complete seat belt assembly.
- 363 additional tickets were issued to drivers who failed to ensure that passengers under 16 years were properly secured.
- Child Car Seat Inspections were held across the city, 643 child car seats were inspected and installed properly for parents to ensure a safe ride.
The Toronto Police Service will continue to pay special attention to all motorists and passengers that fail to buckle up, especially those with young children as passengers.
