Quote Unquote – November 2011

November 8, 2011

Q) A friend borrowed my car and was involved in an accident that resulted in a total loss. Later, I discovered that my friend was driving my car with a suspended driver’s license. Now, I’m finding out that my insurance claim may be denied and I may receive a rate increase. Is this true?

A) Unfortunately, this may be true. An unlicensed driver will not be covered on your auto insurance policy. Any car accidents with your vehicle are covered by the policy that insures the car and not the driver. Therefore, your car insurance rates may increase, depending on the accident details.
