Recognizing the ongoing challenges Canadian drivers face because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Intact Insurance says it is offering all of its auto insurance policyholders in Canada the opportunity to apply for one month of premium relief.

The latest rate relief support was announced on March 18, 2021. It also applies to belairdirect auto policyholders nationwide.

Intact customers can apply through Intact's Client Centre or contact their brokers to apply to receive the funds. belairdirect customers can do the same via the belairdirect Client Centre. Intact and belairdirect policyholders can also apply for the premium relief through either insurer’s mobile app.

"Our purpose is to help people, businesses, and society prosper in good times and be resilient in bad times. For more than a year, the pandemic has tested the resilience of individuals and society. This latest wave has been even more challenging," says Louis Gagnon, president of Canadian operations for Intact, in a statement. "As a company, we came into this pandemic on strong footing and are in a position to continue helping our customers."

Both insurers’ customers can also reduce their premiums through usage-based insurance programs such as Intact's myDrive and belairdirect's automerit, the company says. These programs provide customers with the opportunity to reduce costs due to decreased driving during the pandemic and earn up to 25% off their premiums.
